PROJECT: BATHROOM OVERHAUL

This half-bathroom’s to-the-studs remodel takes its inspiration from the wonky lines and striking cobalt of Matisse’s Blue Nudes.

The wobbly mirror, ramped sink, and textural sconce unify with the wall’s cool white in Sherwin Williams’ 'White Snow'. Peppy little neon hooks from Garza Marfa add a playful spark, reminding visitors not to take themselves too seriously.

Like Matisse’s nude, the bathroom’s darling is an eye-catching azure zellige tile by Clé in 'Ancient Sea', laid with painstaking care by our subcontractor, Jordy from Tile Pros.

When asked about his comfort level with the irregular, earthy edges of Moroccan zellige, Jordy quietly brought out his phone with dozens of photos from a recent trip to Istanbul, featuring not his food, not his girlfriend, but picture upon picture of handmade tile.

The shower was in excellent hands.

A dark blue stain in the floor tile’s grout creates a yin-yang color conversation with the shower wall.

Each detail in this bathroom dialogues with the whole in an invitation to look in the mirror and admire one’s whimsical, wonky self.
